Oakland, CA–Today, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price announced that a jury returned a guilty verdict against Louis Woods III (35) for the 2022 shooting death of Brian “Marquis” Moore outside Cunha’s Cocktails in San Leandro. The jury found Mr. Woods guilty of second-degree murder with a gun enhancement.

The testimony and evidence presented at trial established that on the evening of March 25, 2022, Mr. Woods arrived at the bar with an assault rifle in his backpack and shot Mr. Moore with that gun after an altercation occurred between Mr. Woods’ father and Mr. Moore. Police later recovered the murder weapon, an AR-15 style assault rifle “ghost gun,” at Mr. Woods’ residence in Oakland.

“I first want to thank the jury for their hard work and thoughtful deliberation in rendering this guilty verdict against Mr. Woods,” said DA Pamela Price. “I also want to thank our entire prosecution team, including the inspector and the assigned Victim-Witness advocate. This is another tragedy that might have been avoided if Mr. Woods did not have a gun in his backpack. Too many guns are a deadly epidemic in our community and this brutal attack against an unarmed man leaves the community traumatized, and families devastated by a thoughtless act of violence.

” Louis Woods III faces up to 25 years to life in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 24, 2025, in Department 702, at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.
