Demarris Evans has been appointed as the Interim Branch Head for the Civil Rights Bureau. A dedicated advocate for justice system transformation, Evans brings her expertise from the San Francisco District Attorney's office. Evans' experience includes policy development, victim services enhancement, and promoting racial equity and restorative justice. At both the San Francisco and Orange County Public Defender Office, Evans has pioneered racial justice units, advancing equitable practices through litigation and community engagement. Alameda County District Attorney's Office Charges Juan Martinez In Connection With The Fatal Shooting Near Lake Merritt Bart Station Oakland, CA August 15, 2023 — The Alameda County District Attorney's office has charged Juan Martinez, 45, in connection with the fatal shooting outside of the Lake Merritt BART station on August 8. According to BART police, the altercation stemmed from a dispute over an electric scooter. Martinez is currently in custody at Santa Rita Jail without bail. Martinez faces charges of murder, felony criminal threats, and additional sentencing enhancements. Alameda County’s District Attorney Charges Two Men With Attempted Murder In Gas Station Shooting Incident

Oakland CA. August 14, 2023 – The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is charging two men allegedly involved in a shooting incident at a gas station on East 12th Street in Oakland on July 7. Roderick Smith of Hayward is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle and one count of unlawful firearm activity.  Deandre Daley of Oakland is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, one count of unlawful firearm activity and possession of a firearm by a felon. Oakland police investigators say the two defendants parked their car after spotting the male victim pumping gas. A confrontation ensued. The defendants then started shooting at the male victim who shot back. That male victim was struck by a bullet. One of his female passengers was also shot…
