February 18, 2025 Oakland, CA - Today, Ursula Jones Dickson was appointed as the new District Attorney of Alameda County. Ms. Jones Dickson was sworn into office by California Appeals Court Judge Charles Smiley before a large gathering of her family, friends, and supporters in the Chamber of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The audience was also filled with many past and current members of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson began her legal career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, where she was hired by then-District Attorney Thomas J. Orloff. Hayward Man Charged with Murder and Gun Enhancement Faces 50 Years to Life in Prison

February 5, 2025 Dublin, CA—The Alameda District Attorney’s Office has charged Larry Jose Lopez (43) with murder in connection with the shooting death of Rolando Jose Silva (68). Mr. Lopez is also charged with an enhancement for the alleged use of a firearm causing great bodily injury and death to the victim in this case. The criminal complaint alleges that on or about February 2, 2025, Mr. Lopez, personally and intentionally used a gun to shoot and kill Mr. Silva. The two men have allegedly known each other for approximately 25 years. Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict Against Oscar Arevalo-Boquiax for a Double Stabbing that Killed Father and Son  

January 30, 2025 Dublin, CA – Today, Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts announced that a jury found Oscar Arevalo-Baquiax (24) guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Rigoberto Perez (49). Mr. Arevalo-Baquiax was also found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Rigoberto Perez Jr. (22).  The testimony and evidence presented at trial showed that on or about September 24, 2022, Mr. Arevalo-Baquiax and a female friend were attending a birthday party at Mr. Perez’s apartment in Hayward. Witness testimony stated that at about 4:00 AM, a heated argument began between Mr. Arevalo-Baquiax and Mr. Perez Jr. about the female guest Mr. Arevalo-Baquiax brought to the party, and they were both asked to leave. Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Takes Aggressive Approach Combating Worker Exploitation and Labor Trafficking

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month January 15, 2025 Oakland, CA— In honor of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announces aggressive efforts to combat worker exploitation and labor trafficking. Thanks to a $335,935 grant awarded last year by the California Department of Industrial Relations, the Workers’ Rights Enforcement Grant Program strengthens investigation and prosecution efforts in Alameda County against wage theft and forced labor. The DA’s Office also partnered with the U.S. Department of Labor to improve compliance through joint efforts, including shared training, investigations, and information. They also collaborate with unions, service providers, schools, and churches to combat worker exploitation. These efforts have led to investigations in industries like construction, massage therapy, and street vending.
