Bureaus

The Alameda County District Attorneys Office has created and expanded a number of specialized Bureaus and Community based Commissions dedicated to upholding justice and and serving residents.  Each bureau plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of the justice system in Alameda County.

The Administrative Services Bureau, which consists of all office support personnel, handles all administrative tasks of the DAO. This includes providing administrative support in the form of data entry, administrative assistants, clerks, receptionists, mailroom/supply clerks, warehouse facility clerks, law clerks/paralegals and program assistants.

The Civil Rights Bureau is responsible for investigating and prosecuting complex criminal and public corruption cases. In addition to Public Accountability, it includes units dedicated to Racial Justice, Resentencing and Reentry and Restorative Justice.

The election of DA Pamela Price as the first Black woman to serve as District Attorney has generated an unprecedented degree of media and public attention for the Alameda County District Attorney’s office which is reflected in a dramatic increase in mainstream media and social media inquiries. The office has created a robust Communications team which includes videographers, press information officers (PIO) and a social media team to respond to the changing information demands.

The Community Support Bureau includes the nationally recognized Victim Witness Advocates that provides specialized services to victims of crime, witnesses and their families, with a special commitment to children exposed to trauma or violence, our reorganized Collaborative Courts, which explores diversion opportunities for those suffering from drug addiction or mental health issues. The Collaborative Courts seek treatment programs, such as a successful Drug School, for low-level users.

The Consumer Justice Bureau has sections dedicated to Complex Consumer Protection Litigation, Environment litigation, Wage Theft, and includes units for Financial Crimes, such as Real Estate Fraud, Workers Compensation Fraud and Insurance Fraud.

The Criminal Prosecutions Bureau is divided into several divisions including Felony Trial, Preliminary Hearings, Mental Health, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and Misdemeanors, Special Prosecutions and Organized Crime/Cold Cases.

The Inspectors Bureau consists of 75 sworn officers who provide investigative and logistical support to Deputy District Attorneys in their preparation and presentation of cases. Investigators also complement and supplement local law enforcement efforts by providing them with investigative assistance, expertise and technical resources.

The Juvenile Justice Bureau handles cases involving juveniles age 17 and under who have been arrested for committing a crime.
