Alameda County Joins San Francisco and Santa Clara as the only DA Offices with Public Data Dashboards in the Bay Area

January 27, 2025

OAKLAND, CA — Today, Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts announces the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office now has a data dashboard available to the public on its website. The goal of the dashboard is to ensure that the public has access to data on the review and prosecution of criminal cases in Alameda County.

“This represents our office’s commitment to transparency, accountability, fairness, and justice,” said Chief Assistant DA Roberts. “We made a commitment to deliver a dashboard by January 2025, and today we deliver on that promise.”

Assistant Chief of Administration and Operations Tara Anderson led the effort to create the dashboard for the DA’s Office. “Making this innovative and interactive dashboard available to the public is an essential step toward improving our work on behalf of the people and enhancing public trust.”

The Alameda District Attorney’s Office receives thousands of incident reports from police agencies to review for prosecution each year. This is the first public interactive view into that consequential work. The initial release of the dashboard provides detailed information on case referrals and cases filed. In addition, the launch includes the first prosecutor performance indicator focused on capacity and efficiency. This dashboard was created through the collaboration of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Prosecution Collaborative Initiative.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Alameda District Attorney’s Office—our second site in California, alongside the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office—in this groundbreaking initiative,” said Melba Pearson, co-manager of the PPIs. “By providing stakeholders with access to robust data, we empower communities to advocate for equitable, data-driven, and effective criminal justice policies.”

“It has been a pleasure to support the Alameda District Attorney’s Office in their commitment to using data to advance operational, policy, and practice decisions, as well as in sharing information with the public,” said Jennifer Ferone, Deputy Research Director of CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance. “This is the future of prosecution that communities deserve, with decisions driven and held accountable by data to promote efficiency, fairness, and safety. We look forward to continuing the important work supported by this Initiative with ACDAO and the PPI team.”

This project has been supported by the Alameda District Attorney’s Office staff, who have provided the data that make the dashboard possible and collaborated on its design, content, and functionality. The involvement of the Prosecution Collaborative Initiative has been supported by the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Future phases of the dashboard will include demographics, crime categories, and additional Prosecutor Performance Indicators.
