Oakland, CA – Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed felony arson charges against Peter Taraba. The complaint also charges him with burglary and vandalism.
Mr. Daniels is charged with arson, a violation of Section 451(d) of the California Penal Code, arising from a fire that he allegedly started at the Berkeley Animal Shelter on June 6, 2026.
“I am grateful to the Berkeley first responders whose efforts suppressed the fire before any people or animals were injured.” DA Jones Dickson said.
Peter Taraba was arraigned at 2:00 PM on June 16, 2026, in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court, in the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland. The next court date is June 18, 2026, at 9:00 AM for appointment of counsel and plea in the same department.
