Oakland, CA — Today, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that Mercury Hayes (18), a former student at Latitude High School, was arrested following an investigation into threats against a school official and potentially students at the Oakland school.

On August 9, 2026, Oakland Unified School District officials contacted the Oakland Police Department to report threats to a school official at Latitude High School in Oakland.

The investigation uncovered messages containing direct threats against a school official, including a video showing what appeared to be an assault-style rifle equipped with high-capacity magazines.

Mr. Hayes has been charged with a felony, criminal threats, a violation of Penal Code section 422.

Mercury Hayes is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 9:15 A.M. in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court, Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
