Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict Against Camren Watts in Shooting that Left One Man Seriously Injured

Mr. Watts Faces 23 Years in State Prison December 19, 2024 Oakland, CA – Today, Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts announced that a jury found Camren Watts (23) guilty of two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. These charges include two aggravating factors of violence or bodily harm and prior juvenile convictions for Mr. Watts for personally using a firearm to shoot into a car and seriously injuring a man. The jury also found Mr. Watts guilty of one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, one count of unlawful firearm activity, and one count of carrying a loaded firearm in public. The testimony and evidence presented at trial showed that the unprovoked shooting happened on or about 1 P.M. on September 02, 2020, near the intersection of 51st Street and West Street in Oakland. Public Accountability Unit Review of Fatal Pleasanton PD Shooting of Cody Chavez Finds Criminal Charges Not Warranted  

December 5, 2024 Oakland, CA – Today, DA Pamela Price announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office Public Accountability Unit’s (PAU) review of the February 17, 2022, fatal shooting of Cody Chavez by Pleasanton Police Officers Brian Jewell and Mario Guillermo has concluded. The PAU thoroughly reviewed, with fresh eyes, the prior Alameda County District Attorney’s Office report, Pleasanton Police Department policies, and the complete case file materials, including but not limited to all available body-worn camera footage, news footage, investigative reports, witness statements, and dispatch recordings.    While this is certainly a tragic outcome and series of events, the PAU has concluded that Officers Guillermo and Jewell cannot be held criminally liable for the killing of Mr. Chavez.
