Man Charged With Murder and Possession of Improvised Explosive Devices in Pleasanton

Oakland, CA — Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Lucas Chan (28) with murder for the shooting death of his father, Lance Chan (61).

Lucas Chan is charged with first-degree murder. The charges include a sentencing enhancement for firing a gun. Mr. Chan is also charged with six counts (all felonies) of possessing explosive devices in a home near populated locations.

On August 15, 2025, Pleasanton Police responded to a 911 dispatch related to a shooting at a residence on Helpert Court. When the officers arrived, they found an adult male victim who was identified as Lance Chan, the defendant’s father. The criminal complaint alleges that Lucas Chan shot the victim in their family home. Mr. Chan was arrested at the scene. It is further alleged that at the time of the arrest, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team found multiple explosive devices and substances and materials to make a destructive device inside the home, allegedly in possession of the defendant.

Lucas Chan was arraigned on August 20, 2025, in Department 702 of the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin. He remains in custody.

Charges Include Multiple Gun Enhancements

Oakland, CA — Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Jesse Fahrner (54) with multiple counts of attempted premeditated murder and shooting at Oakland Police Officers with a semiautomatic handgun.

Mr. Fahrner is charged with five counts of attempted willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder of a peace officer engaged in the performance of their duty and five additional counts of assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm. These charges include sentencing enhancements for firing a gun. Finally, Mr. Fahrner is charged with two counts of felony child abuse.

On August 8, 2025, Mr. Fahrner is alleged to have shot a gun at Oakland Police Officers who were responding to a 911 dispatch related to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on West Grand Avenue. Mr. Fahrner allegedly fired his weapon from inside a residence, nearly hitting officers after they knocked on the front door and announced themselves as Oakland Police. At the time that he fired his gun it is alleged that the residence was occupied by Mr. Fahrner, an adult female, and two children.

Jesse Fahrner is scheduled for arraignment on August 12, 2025, at 9 a.m. in Department 112 of the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

Man Charged With Murder in Deadly Shooting in San Leandro

Charges Include Gun Sentencing Enhancements

July 22, 2025 

Oakland, CA — Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed murder charges against Rohith Sunil for the July 17, 2025, shooting death of Ms. Casey Way (41). The victim was shot and killed while walking her dogs in San Leandro. Her death was the second murder in San Leandro.

Mr. Sunil has also been charged with assault with a semi-automatic gun and carrying a loaded weapon in public, all felonies. In addition, the charges include sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm, causing death. If convicted, Mr. Sunil could be sentenced to up to 50 years to life in state prison.

The criminal complaint alleges that on July 17, 2025, Ms. Way was walking her dogs with a friend on E.14th Street when Mr. Sunil approached. Mr. Sunil allegedly had a conversation with the victim and her friend, and then suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot Ms. Way.

Rohith Sunil is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. in Department 702 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.

HATE CRIME CHARGE FILED IN KNIFE INCIDENT ON BART PLATFORM IN FREMONT

July 14, 2025

Oakland, CA – Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Michael Eugene Sprague (45), including brandishing a weapon and a hate crime enhancement, for allegedly threatening a BART patron waiting for a train with a knife while shouting “go back to your country.”

The complaint alleges that on July 10, 2025, Mr. Sprague threatened the BART patron while exhibiting a deadly weapon in a rude, angry, or threatening manner. The complaint contains a hate crime enhancement, which alleges that Mr. Sprague committed the alleged crime because of the victim’s actual characteristics and perceived characteristics with respect to race and ethnicity. 

Michael Eugene Sprague’s arraignment is scheduled for July 15, 2025, at 9 AM, in Department 712 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.

MURDER CHARGES FILED IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A MAN KILLED IN SAN LEANDRO

Charges Include Gun and Great Bodily Injury Enhancements 

July 9, 2025 

Oakland, CA — Today, District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed murder charges against Andre Thomas Williams (49) for the deadly shooting of Ryan Montgomery Christie (47).   

The complaint alleges that on June 13, 2025, Mr. Williams shot and killed Ryan Montgomery Christie. Mr. Williams is further alleged to have personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing the death of the victim. In addition, Mr. Williams is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The complaint includes enhancements for the use of the firearm and the infliction of great bodily injury upon Ryan Montgomery Christie.  

Andre Thomas Williams is currently being held without bail. He waived his arraignment today and is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on Monday, July 14, 2025, in Department 702 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin. 

This is the first homicide in San Leandro in 2025.
