Community Engagement & Legislation Division
The Community Engagement & Legislation Division serves as the bridge between the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the communities we serve. We lead efforts to build trust, ensure transparency, and advance justice through inclusive outreach, public education, and proactive policy work.
Our team engages directly with residents, schools, advocacy groups, and local organizations to listen, inform, and collaborate. We also contribute to shaping laws and policies that reflect the values and needs of Alameda County’s diverse communities.
What We Do
Community Outreach
We attend and organize public meetings, town halls, and neighborhood events where residents can share concerns, seek services from our Victim Witness Assistance Division, Family Justice Center and Collaborative Courts staff and hear directly from our office—because safety starts with communication.
Share Useful Information
We provide easy-to-understand resources about the criminal justice process, community resources, crime prevention, and victim support to help keep individuals and families informed and protected.
Partner with Local Organizations
We collaborate with trusted community groups, nonprofits, faith and cultural organizations as well as the business community to solve problems together and make our communities safer.
Provide Guest Speakers
Our Speakers Bureau sends trained staff to speak at schools, senior centers, and community groups—bringing legal information directly to where people live and learn.
Support Youth and Schools
We work with students, teachers, and community programs to promote leadership, prevent violence, and build positive relationships with law enforcement.
Help Improve Laws
We work on policies that reflect the needs of Alameda County communities—improving the criminal justice system, supporting survivors and victims of crime, ensuring accountability, fairness, accountability, and long-term safety for all.
Connect People to Accountability and Support
We help educate law enforcement and connect community resources to programs like the CARES Navigation Center, which offer services such as mental health care, housing, and addiction support—while also holding individuals accountable for their actions. These efforts aim to reduce repeat offenses, increase stability, and make our communities safer in the long term.
