Oakland, California – District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson, along with 28 other California District Attorneys and the City Attorney of Los Angeles, announced a $3.15 million settlement with the pest control company, Terminix International Inc., and Rentokil North America, Inc. (Collectively “Terminix”).

Between 2021 and 2024, District Attorney investigators uncovered at Terminix facilities statewide hundreds of unlawfully disposed of pesticides and hazardous waste. The investigation also revealed that in some instances, Terminix improperly managed and disposed of its customers’ private records, in violation of state law.

Upon being notified by the District Attorneys of unlawful disposals, Terminix was cooperative and responsive. Terminix has agreed to enhance company policies and procedures to eliminate improper management and disposal of these prohibited wastes and to protect confidential customer information in California.

Terminix operates 5 locations in Alameda County under the names Western Exterminator Company and Terminix in Hayward, Pleasanton, and Union City.  Alameda County will receive $160,000 in civil penalties and cost recovery.
