ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY URSULA JONES DICKSON CHARGES MAN WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO A DEADLY ROBBERY IN SAN LEANDRO

Dublin, CA— Today, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that Robert Donnelle Hughes (19) has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Nathaniel Lee McCowan (26) during an armed robbery on April 1, 2024, in San Leandro.  

Prosecutors charged Mr. Hughes with murder, robbery, carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in public, and carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle The charges also include enhancements for being armed with a concealed, unregistered, loaded firearm at the time of the robbery and killing. 

“This senseless loss of life is the result of a robbery with a gun, said DA Jones Dickson. “We cannot ignore the potential for physical harm, and death, associated with violent robberies in our community. We all must work harder to encourage less gun violence, and to ensure that when gun violence occurs, we support victims and families of victims as they seek peace and justice.”  

Robert Donnelle Hughes is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on March 6, 2025, in Department 702 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin. If convicted, Mr. Hughes could be sentenced to a term of 25 years to life in prison.
