Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price Hosts National and State Gun Violence Prevention Leaders for Discussion with Local Police Chiefs

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price addresses participants during the discussion on gun violence prevention at Glad Tidings International Church of God in Christ Hayward, CA.

October 18, 2023 HAYWARD, CA – On Wednesday, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price convened a roundtable discussion with Alameda County Police Chiefs and gun violence prevention experts from the Brady Campaign, Moms Demand Action and the Alameda County Public Health Department’s Office of Violence Prevention with the goal to develop strategies to end gun violence in the county. The Roundtable was hosted by Bishop Jerry Wayne Macklin at Glad Tidings International Church of God in Christ in Hayward and was attended by representatives from Alameda County police departments.

“As the elected District Attorney, I am deeply concerned about the impact of gun violence throughout Alameda County. My Administration is prosecuting violent crimes where a gun is used, and I’ve established an innovative mentorship program for young men — all of whom are first-time offenders that are caught with a gun,” said Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price.

“I think it’s just incredible to have a leader in Alameda County who understands that gun violence is a crisis in the county and who pulls together many different leaders to find pathways to solutions to prevent the violence,” said Tanya Schardt, Senior Counsel and Director of the Brady Campaign. “I was so grateful to be a part of this discussion.”

“It was fascinating to hear from all the different police agencies to learn about the challenges they are facing and what they are seeing when it comes to gun violence,” said Lisa Henry, from Moms Demand Action. “We would love to continue to see how they are working with the District Attorney and support them a connection to the community.”

This roundtable represents the first of such convenings under the Price Administration and included the police chiefs of Fremont, Hayward, Newark, BART,  the assistant chief of Oakland, the assistant sheriff of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, captains from the California Highway Patrol, and a lieutenant from the City of Alameda. In June, DA Price spoke before the Senate’s Public Safety Committee in support of key gun reforms including Assembly Bills 301, 732, 733, 1089 and 1420.
