Oakland, CA — Today, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple felony charges, including murder and four counts of attempted murder, against Jose Jesus Rodriguez for his involvement in a series of stabbings that took place on August 24, 2026, near the Fruitvale BART Station.
On August 24, 2026, BART and Oakland Police officers responded to the vicinity of the BART Station and nearby Cesar Chavez Park where they located the five stabbing victims. One victim died from his wounds; the others sustained serious injuries from the knife attack.
Eyewitness and video evidence enabled police to promptly identify and arrest the defendant.
“I am deeply saddened for the victims and their families who are suffering unimaginable pain and loss from this senseless act of violence,” said District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson.
Jose Jesus Rodriguez is scheduled to appear for arraignment on August 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court, Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

August 27, 2026 – Oakland, CA – District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced today that Penske Truck Leasing Co., L.P. (“Penske”) will pay $7,660,000 for several environmental law violations.
The civil lawsuit and settlement relate to alleged violations of California law regarding the storage of hazardous materials at facilities that Penske operates throughout California, including Alameda County.
Penske will remove or replace aging double-walled underground storage tanks with upgraded systems and increase safety monitoring at 12 locations in California.
“Protecting our environment and holding companies accountable are essential to safeguarding the health and safety of our communities,” said District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson.
The settlement was entered into with 21 District Attorneys’ offices and the City Attorney of Los Angeles.

Oakland, CA — Today, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced felony charges against Howard Tisdale (37), Keeyana Marie Johnson (34), and Shiphon M. Degrate (29) for a series of armed robberies on August 17th and 18th, 2026.
“I want to thank the Oakland Police Department for their thorough and prompt investigation of these robberies that led to the arrests,” said District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson.
The defendants have been charged with multiple felony offenses, including robbery, possession of an illegal assault weapon, and evading law enforcement. According to the charges, the defendants targeted Hispanic street vendors and their customers in East Oakland.
Howard Tisdale, Keeyana Marie Johnson, and Shiphon M. Degrate are scheduled to be arraigned on August 20, 2026, in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court, Willey W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

August 18, 2026 – Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced today that the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple felony charges against Khalid Nelson (18) after an armed robbery and shooting outside a TJ Maxx store in Alameda.
On Saturday, August 15, 2026, while brandishing a loaded firearm, Mr. Nelson attempted to rob the victim in the TJ Maxx parking lot. A Good Samaritan, who came to the victim’s aid, was shot in the leg and sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
“I am grateful that the Good Samaritan received prompt medical treatment and will recover,” said DA Jones Dickson.
Mr. Nelson has been charged with robbery and assault with an unregistered firearm, causing great bodily injury.
Mr. Nelson is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 9:00 AM, in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.

Oakland, CA — Today, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson announced that Mercury Hayes (18), a former student at Latitude High School, was arrested following an investigation into threats against a school official and potentially students at the Oakland school.
On August 9, 2026, Oakland Unified School District officials contacted the Oakland Police Department to report threats to a school official at Latitude High School in Oakland.
The investigation uncovered messages containing direct threats against a school official, including a video showing what appeared to be an assault-style rifle equipped with high-capacity magazines.
Mr. Hayes has been charged with a felony, criminal threats, a violation of Penal Code section 422.
Mercury Hayes is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 9:15 A.M. in Department 112 of the Alameda County Superior Court, Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
